Late last month, a Queen Anne’s County man pulled up to a Fast Stop convenience store in Easton to cash a couple of winning scratch-offs. The Eastern Shore resident, who is an occasional Lottery player, had no idea that his scratch-off cashing routine was about to take an exciting turn.
“I did pretty well on the two tickets,” said the 47-year-old wholesale store manager. “I decided to get two more. I picked out two that I’d been checking on.” The Grasonville man keeps tabs on prizes claimed on several Maryland Lottery’s scratch-offs via mdlottery.com.
“I watch for which tickets still have big prizes, and $100,000 Jackpot was full of them.”
After scratching off the $5 instant ticket in the store, the husband and father of two was not worried about broadcasting news of his $100,000 top-prize win to staff and clientele. “When I saw the $100,000, I started yelling and jumping. Everyone was crowding around, shaking hands, taking pictures. It was pretty exciting.”
The winner and his wife will pay several bills with their prize and set aside the bulk of the windfall for their kids’ education. Fast Stop at 9543 Ocean Gateway in Easton wins, too. The Talbot County retailer earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off.
