A Maryland Lottery player from Georgia visiting family members in Oxon Hill heeded the Ravens’ caw! She scratched her way to a $100,000 prize on a $10 Ravens instant ticket. Originally from Maryland, the 68-year-old was visiting her two sons when she scored big with the popular game.
The lucky player and one of her sons were driving to his brother’s house when they decided to stop at Earl’s Super Liquors in Oxon Hill. The winner, who likes scratch-offs and plays them in Georgia as well, tried her luck with just one Ravens instant ticket. She waited until they arrived at her son’s house to play the game.
“I just didn’t know if I won, so I gave it to my son to check it for me,” she said, smiling. He scanned the scratch-off using the Maryland Lottery app and was shocked at what he saw.
“It said $100,000,” said the winner’s son, who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. “I checked it two more times before I told her it was a winner.”
Soon after that, the assisted living nurse shared her unbelievable news with her husband and other son. She had to return home, however, without her prize. The grandmother of five had to leave for Georgia the day after her big win, which occurred on an August weekend when Lottery headquarters are closed.
